Until April 4, 2004, Monte was a political municipality in the Mendrisio district, in the Mendrisio district of the canton of Ticino in Switzerland . Today it is part of the municipality of Castel San Pietro .

geography

The village is a closed settlement on the right side of the Valle di Muggio, since 2004 with Casima and Campora (formerly a fraction of Caneggio ) part of the municipality of Castel San Pietro.

history

The village was first mentioned in 1420 as de Monte. Originally part of the Valle di Muggio valley and then united with Bruzella in terms of territory until 1609 , in the Middle Ages the village was subject to tithing to the Bishop of Como and initially belonged to the mother church of Balerna and was raised to its own parish in 1821.
