Bruzella is a place in the municipality of Breggia in the district of Mendrisio in the canton of Ticino in Switzerland .

geography

Bruzella is located above Chiasso on the left side of the Muggio valley on a terraced slope. The municipality borders on Italy at Monte Bisbino .

history

In 852 Bruzella was mentioned as Brusella . The village used to belong to the parish of Balerna , then formed a parish with Caneggio and separated from it in the early 19th century. In Bruzella the forest was mainly used and cheese was made. Today Bruzella is largely inhabited by retired people and commuters (80% of the working population).

Bruzella was an independent municipality until October 25, 2009 , when it merged with the municipalities of Cabbio , Caneggio , Morbio Superiore , Muggio , Sagno to form the municipality of Breggia .
