geography

It is located in the southernmost tip of the Sottoceneri and is bordered in the north by the 1704  m high Monte Generoso . The river Breggia flows through the entire valley. Around the villages of the valley there are chestnut forests, which until the last century represented an important sideline for the inhabitants. In the upper course of the valley, at an altitude of 900–1000 meters, are the places Roncapiano and Scudellate . The villages are on the east side

Muggio is the main village in the valley. Many houses in the mountain villages were built with stones from the area. Artists from various fields have settled in Muggio. Farmers process cow and goat milk into the well-known Muggiotal cheese (so-called zincarlin ), which is coated with salt, pepper and olive oil.

The villages are on the west side of the valley (from north to south)

Most of the residents have moved from Casima and Campala. Merlot is grown around Castel S. Pietro .

The area is partially protected as Parco delle Gole della Brugia (also: Parco delle Gole della Breggia ). The valley has relatively good bus connections to Chiasso or Mendrisio. It is little known from a tourist point of view, so there are few accommodations (hotels in Sagno and Monte, B&B in Cabbio, a self-catering house in Scudellate).
