Ulrich Manthe
Ulrich Manthe (born April 8, 1947 in Homburg ) is a German legal scholar .
Ulrich Manthe studied in China and at the Academy of American and International Law in Dallas (Texas, USA). Since 1977 he was a research assistant at the University of Freiburg , where he in 1980 Joseph Georg Wolf with The libri ex Cassio of Iavolenus Priscus received his doctorate and in 1985 with The senatus consultum Pegasianum habilitated . From 1985 to 2012 he was Professor of Civil Law and Roman Law at the University of Passau . In 1996 he was visiting professor at the University of Nanjing , China, and in 1999 in Krasnoyarsk , Russia . Manthe was a board member of the German-Chinese Lawyers Association. Manthe has been a full member of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences since 2011 .
A focus of his work since 1984 has been the collaboration on the edition and commentary work of the institutions of Gaius by M.David / Hein LW Nelson and the first bilingual edition of this work in Germany, where he works as a translator, commentator and editor. Manthe's main areas of work are Roman law and Roman legal history, Chinese law and legal history, the history of European private law and civil law .
