Joseph Georg Wolf

Joseph Georg Wolf (born July 6, 1930 in Düsseldorf ; † May 31, 2017 ) was a German law scholar and professor at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg .

Live and act

Wolf studied law at the University of Freiburg, among others . In 1959, he was from the University of Göttingen with the Roman legal magazine "Error in the Roman contract law" Dr. iur. PhD. In 1964, Wolf completed his habilitation under the supervision of Franz Wieacker, also in Göttingen. He then initially worked as a private lecturer at the University of Göttingen. In October 1964 he was appointed to the University of Freiburg, where he held the full professorship for Roman law, civil law and modern history of private law until his retirement in 1998. He was a member of the Göttingen and theHeidelberg Academy of Sciences .

Wolf's research focus was primarily on the law of ancient and early Rome. He related his research to the law applicable today and thus also researched its dogmatic foundations.
