Robin Virginia Gayle Wright (born April 8, 1966 in Dallas , Texas ) is an American actress and Golden Globe Prize winner.

life and career

Robin Wright grew up in San Diego, California and attended La Jolla High School in the La Jolla neighborhood . At the age of 14 she was already working as a model in Paris and Japan . After graduating from school, she wanted to become an actress. She made her debut in 1983 in the pilot episode of the television series The Yellow Rose . She became known to a wider audience with the portrayal of Kelly Capwell in the soap opera California Clan , in which she participated from 1984 to 1988. The role earned her three Emmy nominations.

While working for television, Wright was trying to break into the film business. She got her first leading role in Rob Reiner's film The Bride of the Prince (1987) with Peter Falk and Billy Crystal . She then played alongside Jason Patric in the drama Denial (1990), a young woman who tries to leave her troubled past behind. In the same year, the thriller In the Forecourt of Hell was released , in which she stood for the first time with Sean Penn as well as Ed Harris and Gary Oldman in front of the camera. In the drama Die Playboys (1992) with Aidan Quinn , she played a young Irish woman who gave birth to an illegitimate child in the 1950s, causing a scandal in her village. Wright had her international breakthrough as an actress at the side of Tom Hanks with the character Jenny Curran in the 1994 box office hit Forrest Gump . The role earned her a Golden Globe nomination.

Wright next starred in the drama Crossing Guard (1995), directed by Sean Penn, in a supporting role opposite Jack Nicholson and Anjelica Huston . In 1996 she played the title role in the drama Moll Flanders , the film adaptation of the novel of the same name by Daniel Defoe from 1722; the male lead played Morgan Freeman . For her portrayal, she was nominated for Best Actress at the 1997 Satellite Awards . Finally, she starred with Kevin Costner in the surprise hit Message in a Bottle (1999) and with Michelle Pfeiffer in White Oleander (2002).

In 2007 she starred in the computer-animated fantasy film Beowulf by Robert Zemeckis, alongside Anthony Hopkins and Angelina Jolie . In 2008 she directed the comedy Inside Hollywood with Robert De Niro .

In 2013, she played herself in the partially computer-animated film The Congress by Ari Folman . A year later she won the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Series for her portrayal as the wife of the politician Frank Underwood ( Kevin Spacey ) in the TV series drama House of Cards . In House of Cards Wright 2014/2015 also introduced for the first time directing, total in ten episodes. For Blade Runner in 2049 , the continuation of Blade Runner in 1982, Wright was cast in a supporting role.

2006 with Sean Penn

Robin Wright's first marriage was from 1986 to 1988 with Dane Witherspoon . From 1996 she lived in seclusion in her second marriage to Oscar winner Sean Penn , whose name she took and with whom she has two children. Her daughter Dylan is also a model and actress. In April 2008, divorce proceedings that had already been initiated were stopped, and Sean Penn filed for divorce again the following year, but withdrew the application shortly afterwards.

In August 2009, Robin Wright filed for divorce in Marin County . The following month, she announced the end of her marriage in an interview in the US magazine "More". On August 5, 2010, after 13 years of marriage, she was legally divorced by mutual agreement.

In mid-December 2013, Wright got engaged to actor Ben Foster, 14 years his junior . They separated in November 2014. In 2015 she was in a relationship with Foster for several months until the final separation. In August 2018 she married the Saint Laurent manager Clement Giraudet.
