Reviews

Ryan Cracknell wrote in the Apollo Movie Guide that the film was "a little strange" and at the same time "delicious". He drifts "unhindered and playfully" between the real world and the fantasy worlds. The cast is strong, but Robert Downey junior overshadows all colleagues; he gives his figure several contours and shapes.

The Lexicon of International Films wrote that the film was based on an "outstanding English television series" from the 1980s. It is a "mixture of film noir , musical and romantic comedy", "whereby the ambitious interlacing of the narrative levels is only partially convincing".

Prisma.de considers the screen version of the “bizarre mixture of musical, drama, comedy and crime story” to be “unfortunately only partially convincing”: “Despite the good cast, there were too many important scenes for the length of the feature film - the TV version is 415 minutes long - the Scissors or the script shortening to the victim, so that someone who does not know the template does not know what is actually being played here. "

Awards

Robert Downey Jr. won a prize at the Sitges Festival Internacional de Cinema de Catalunya in 2003 , and Keith Gordon was nominated for another prize at this film festival. Downey was nominated for the Golden Satellite Award in 2004. The film was nominated for the 2004 Phoenix Film Critics Society Award for makeup .
