Steven Haft

Steven Marvin Haft (* 1949 ) is an American film producer and writer who was nominated for an Oscar at the 1990 Academy Awards for the film drama The Dead Poets Club . He is also known as the producer of the television series Mad Max TV and the war drama Tigerland .

Life

Haft attended Hofstra University in Hempstead and graduated with a law degree, and studied at the State University of New York at Old Westbury and the School of Law at New York University. He is married to the author Lisa Birnbach (* 1956) and has two daughters (born in 1993 and 1997).

Haft established himself as a versatile producer who is mentioned in the same breath as major filmmakers such as John Huston and Robert Altman . In 1982, Haft started his career with the documentary Traveling Hopefully , which received an Academy Award nomination for "Best Documentary Short Film". 1984's The Cradle Will Rock is his most prestigious television production. Robert Altman's 1987 film comedy Therapy Pointless was produced by Haft. This was followed by a work with John Huston in the comedic drama Mr. North - Darling of the Gods the following year . In the 1989, multiple award-winning drama The Dead Poets Club by Peter Weir starring Robin Williams , Haft also acted as a producer. In the 1993 fantasy film Hocus Pocus , he worked with Bette Midler and Sarah Jessica Parker . In the 1996 film drama Last Dance starring Sharon Stone , Haft appeared not only as a producer but also as a writer. In the same year he produced the literary film adaptation Emma with Gwyneth Paltrow in the lead role. In the 1999 film adaptation of the Jurek Becker novel Jakob the Liar , Haft worked again with Robin Williams. In the film drama Beautiful Joe , he repeated his collaboration with Sharon Stone. In 2000 he produced Joel Schumacher's war drama Tigerland with Colin Farrell . Haft was executive producer on the 2007 British drama Intervention . His work over the past few years suggests that he is particularly fond of films with a slightly comical touch.
