Last Dance is an American drama film directed by Bruce Beresford from 1996. The main role is played by Sharon Stone .
action
Cindy Liggett committed a murder as a teenager for which she was sentenced to death. That was twelve years ago. Public defender Rick Hayes takes on her case and tries to avert the execution.
The state governor is considered a hardliner. The African American John Henry Reese, who has also been sentenced to death and is in correspondence with numerous public figures, is also trying to obtain a pardon. Liggett, having no illusions about a pardon, ends up being executed.
Reviews
James Berardinelli compared the film on ReelViews to Dead Man Walking , which he thought was more profound. He wrote that the film writers were not prepared to take risks and was of the opinion that the character of Rick Hayes rather than that of Cindy Liggett would be in the foreground of the film plot.
Roger Ebert praised the portrayal of Sharon Stone in the Chicago Sun-Times of May 3, 1996, but criticized the script, which was not as good as the script for the film Dead Man Walking .
Award
Sharon Stone was nominated for the 1997 Golden Raspberry for her role in the film .
The German Film and Media Assessment FBW in Wiesbaden awarded the film the rating particularly valuable.
