Charles S. Dutton (born January 30, 1951 in Baltimore , Maryland ) is an American actor who is also active as a director.

He won the Outstanding Guest Actor Emmy in 2002 and 2003 for his roles in Practice - The Lawyers and Without a Trace .

His most famous film is Alien 3 . Dutton starred in numerous series, such as The L Word - When Women Love Women .

In 1997 he made his debut as a director with the television production Das Camp - Only the strongest get through . In 2004 he directed the film The Promoter , with Meg Ryan in the lead role.

Dutton owns a farm near Ellicott City , Maryland, and was married to actress Debbi Morgan .
