Mississippi Masala is an American melodrama from 1991 . Directed by the Indian film director Mira Nair .

action

The dictator Idi Amin orders the deportation of all Indians from Cape Land, Uganda . The lawyer Jay, his wife Kinnu and Mina, his little daughter, also have to leave.

Jay now lives with his family in the deep south of the USA . He works as a hotel manager, dreams of returning to Uganda and is litigating his old property. In contrast to Kinnu and Mina, he does not want to make friends with life in black Greenwood , although he has many friends, and tries to do everything in his power to get back to Uganda.

A car accident with sheet metal damage brings Mina together with Demetrius, a black man. They fall in love with each other, which creates many problems. There are racist conflicts within the families, but the love between Mina and Demetrius is stronger. They leave their strict parents' homes behind and start a new life.
