Vincent Canby

Vincent Canby (born July 27, 1924 in Chicago , Illinois , † September 15, 2000 in New York City ) was an American film critic .

Life

Canby worked as a film reporter for Variety before joining the New York Times in 1965 . From 1969 to 1993 he was the director of film criticism for the New York Times , during which time he was considered one of the country's most important film critics. From 1993 onwards, Canby was mainly concerned with theater reviews.

Vincent Canby was never married, but was in a relationship with the author Penelope Gilliatt for several years . Canby died on September 15, 2000 after suffering from cancer .
