Janet Maslin

Janet Reva Maslin (born August 12, 1949 in New York City ) is an American film critic and journalist .

Life

Janet Reva Maslin was born to a real estate agent and teacher. After graduating from the University of Rochester , where she received a bachelor's degree in mathematics , she began her career as a journalist at Boston Phoenix and Rolling Stone , where she wrote music reviews. She moved to the New York Times in 1977, where she went on to write film reviews. From 1993 she took over the management of the film editorial team from Vincent Canby . In 1999 she resigned from this position.

Her favorite film is Lawrence of Arabia and her favorite director is Alfred Hitchcock .

After her marriage to the music producer Jon Landau , Maslin married the writer Benjamin Cheever on December 24, 1981 . She currently lives with him and their two sons in Pleasantville (New York) .
