After 36-year-old business lobbyist Leah Vaughn's relationship with longtime boyfriend Dave broke because he didn't want her to have children, she meets the charming IT expert Carter Duncan. He seems like the absolute dream man and is a welcome twist of fate. Leah's friends and family are thrilled too, as Carter takes loving care of Leah and her family.

After the dating phase is over, however, Leah discovers a violent side to Carter. His protective instincts take on gloomy traits, so that Leah breaks up the resulting relationship. But Carter does not let himself be turned away and promises to make her life hell out of jealousy.
