The numerous racist comments posted by users of the website caused controversy .

At the beginning of the first video, Bruso is sitting in the back of the bus across from Michael. Bruso later stated that Michael wanted to accuse him of racism in response to a harmless remark. When he withdraws to the front of the car, Michael follows him there and continues the verbal argument. When Michael touches Bruso on the shoulder, Bruso gets up and hits him several times in the face with his fist, so that he falls to the ground. In the next picture you see Michael, bleeding, pleading with Brusos for mercy in a handle. Bruso lets go of him and leaves the bus, uttering insults. Michael returns to his seat and calls for a ambulance , where he the word "ambulance" in African American English "ambalance" or "amber lamps" pronounce as, leading the Internet to amusements and numerous video satirizes is; the character Amber Lamps in Bad Ass is a parody of it. Another video shows Bruso rioting on the street immediately after the incident, screaming and kicking a newspaper dispenser. Both men were later treated at a local hospital. No one involved was arrested.

Thomas Bruso

Thomas Alexander "Tommy Slick" Bruso, on whom the character Frank Vega from Bad Ass is based, comes from Chicago , Illinois . Contrary to what is often claimed, Bruso was in the Army, but never served in the Vietnam War. He was discharged from the Army after only 3 months (Feb - May 1969). Due to his participation in the AC Transit Bus fight , he achieved cult status in the internet scene in 2010 under the pseudonym "Epic Beard Man" or "Vietnam Tom" . A brown bum bag and a light blue T-shirt with the imprint "I AM a Motherfucker" on the back, like his white beard, became a kind of trademark that is also used in Craig Moss' feature film. Another video of him had previously been released showing how he was stun gun twice by police officers on August 3, 2009 at Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum after he refused to obey orders.

After the incident, he was the subject of numerous interviews and reports. Nathan Maas, a graphic designer from Portland , Oregon , produced a documentary about Bruso under the title I am a Motherfucker , in which he talks about his life, his background and how he deals with the unusually high level of awareness. reception

Accusation of racism

Because the original incident was rewritten and thus alienated for the film, there was controversy even before it was released. While in the original a white man is provoked by a black person to use physical violence, the roles would be swapped in the film by showing two right-wing extremists molesting a black person and a man portrayed by a Mexican American interfering in the action to defend the victim To defend. This resulted in allegations of racism by various critics as well as by numerous fans in internet forums.

Possible fake

In response to the trailer published in December 2011, some columnists suspected that it could be a fake, similar to the " fake trailer " produced by Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino as part of the Grindhouse film project , in which lead actor Danny Trejo also participated. Sarah Benned, for example, wrote that the trailer was "either a parody, the trailer of one, or just an excuse to let Danny Trejo beat people with a fanny pack".

Sequels

In 2014, the sequel Bad Ass 2: Bad Asses was created . Danny Glover plays alongside Trejo . In 2015, a third part followed with Bad Asses on the Bayou , also with Glover and Trejo in the leading roles.
