Life

Danny Trejo was born the son of construction worker Dan Trejo and his wife Alice Rivera in the Echo Park neighborhood of Los Angeles. Danny Trejo spent most of his youth behind bars because of various robbery and drug offenses , over a period of eleven years he was imprisoned several times in different prisons. During an extended stay in the San Quentin State Prison , he discovered his talent for boxing . He won the prison's lightweight and welterweight championships. However, his hopes for a professional career were dashed by his long prison sentences.

After a rehabilitation program for drug addicts had been completed, he continued to work in support of this program and held several speeches about his past. During one of these speeches, he met an employee of a film studio who later asked him for his support on the film Express to Hell . Actually, he should only work as an extra for the film. However, since one of the screenwriters , Edward Bunker , knew him from his time in San Quentin and knew of his boxing talent, he was hired as a boxing coach for the lead actor Eric Roberts . Then Andrej Konchalovsky , the director , became aware of Trejo and offered him a bigger role as Roberts' boxing opponent in this film.

This gave Trejo a taste for it and he left his criminal life behind for good to gain a foothold in the film business. Since then he has played with some of Hollywood's most famous greats. His scarred face, mustache and tattoos have become his trademark. His work as an actor includes more than 350 film and television productions, including mostly B-movies .

Danny Trejo is married and has three children. He is a cousin of the director Robert Rodriguez , who also regularly uses him as an actor in his films. For Rodriguez, Trejo played the Machete Cortez in all four Spy-Kids films as well as in the films Machete and Machete Kills that resulted from the character . He had his first leading role in Machete .
