The Devil's Rejects (alternative title: TDR - The Devil's Rejects ) is an American horror film by Rob Zombie from 2005 and a loose sequel to the film House of 1000 Corpses .
action
A few months after the murderous events in the Firefly house (see House of 1000 Corpses ), the FBI starts a major offensive against the sadistic family and Sheriff Quincy Wydell begins his personal hunt.
But the mission is only half successful: Family member Rufus is shot and only mother Firefly can be captured. Some police officers are killed or injured. A police officer discovers a photo of the clown Captain Spaulding, who also belongs to the Firefly's, and shows this to Sheriff Wydell. Wydell wants to continue his hunt.
Baby Firefly and Otis flee, only to leave a trail of blood behind them as they flee from the police. While on the run, Baby Firefly and Otis take a country band hostage and torture them while they stop at a motel. Neither of the band members survived their visit.
Soon father Captain Spaulding (Sid Haig) joins the duo and the three flee to his half-brother Charlie to hide from the FBI.
Sheriff Wydell has meanwhile contacted his old friends Rondo and Billy, who should find out for him where Spaulding, Baby and Otis are. Wydell pays Mother Firefly a visit to the jail and sends the guard home to execute her with a knife after a pretend line-up. Wydell learns from Rondo and Billy where Spaulding, Baby and Otis are. Wydell intercepts Charlie and demands that the three be in his shop if he strikes. Charlie initially refuses, but Wydell threatens to harm him.
With the help of Rondo and Billy, Sheriff Wydell manages to catch Otis, Spaulding and Baby. He brings her back to the Firefly estate for supposed interrogation. There he reminds the three of the four youths they killed here . Wydell brutally tortures Otis, Spaulding and Baby for personal reasons and tells the three of them why they are going to die; He reminds the three of his brother George, who was murdered by the Fireflys. He then continues to torture Spaulding and Otis and then sets the house on fire. While Otis and Spaulding remain tied up in the burning house, he releases Baby so that she can then be hunted with an ax. Meanwhile, Charlie comes to help Baby, but Wydell sets him up with the ax. Shortly before Wydell finally strangles baby, Tiny, who left the house shortly before the police operation, breaks Sheriff Wydell's neck. Tiny frees Otis and Spaulding from the burning house, but does not want to flee with the three of them. Otis says goodbye "We'll be back" and Tiny goes back into the burning house.
The three survivors Otis, Spaulding and Baby escape in a car, but suddenly see a police roadblock in the distance. In kamikaze fashion, they drive towards the blockade with loaded shotguns and drawn revolvers and die in the hail of bullets.
Trivia
- Bela Lugosi can be seen on a television set during a scene in a movie in the film . It is a scene from Der Wolfsmensch (1941).
- The film contains around 100 digital effects, most of them to depict scenes of violence. Originally, Rob Zombie only wanted to use special effects that had already existed in the 70s - but he had to drop this plan due to time constraints.
- The Devil's Rejects also contains numerous allusions to other horror films, such as a scene in which the female victim gets the severed face of her boyfriend, which is very reminiscent of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 , in which Bill Moseley also plays a role.
- Rosario Dawson originally had a small role in the film as a nurse. Her part was cut out, however, as Rob Zombie played the character of Dr. Satan temporarily removed from the film at The Devil's Reject . Your character would not have survived long either way: The nurse should die after just 40 seconds of film death.
- The reasons why Dr. Satan no longer appears in the sequel, said Rob Zombie in an interview: “Dr. To see Satan in The Devil's Rejects would be like putting Chewbacca in Bonnie and Clyde . ”On the official DVD, however, these deleted scenes can be found under the bonus material.
- In the original English language, the word "Fuck" can be heard 197 times in various variations.
- Sheri Moon's brother Zombie makes a brief appearance in the film. He was originally only on set as a visitor, but Rob decided to include him in the film because he is good at handling firearms.
- The names Captain JT Spaulding , Otis B. Driftwood and Firefly are the names of characters - all played by Groucho Marx - from the Marx Brothers films Animal Crackers (Captain Spaulding), Scandal in the Opera (Driftwood) and The Marx Brothers im War (Rufus T. Firefly). The Marx Brothers films in general are also mentioned in the film.
- The film is dedicated to Matthew McGrory , who died after filming.
Reviews
James Berardinelli wrote on ReelViews that with such a bad film it is difficult to find words to describe the "awfulness". He said you wouldn't believe it if you didn't see the film. He described the performance of the actors as "terrible" ("horrendous"), the end of the film as "went wrong" ("cataclysmic misfire").
Roger Ebert wrote in the Chicago Sun-Times on July 22, 2005 that the film was something for die-hard fans of horror films. He attested the strip a certain sense of humor and wrote that it could be seen as a particularly black "satire" ("dark (very dark) satire").
“Anyone who got weak knees in the hospital sequence of Kill Bill Vol. 1 shouldn't buy a ticket for this horror homage. The film does not treat its actors squeamishly. But Zombie also identifies with the claim not to deliver a pleasing piece. So be careful: the popcorn could get stuck in the throat of one or the other viewer. "
“Any usual action or horror film is a harmless thing for teenagers to counter this permanent bloodbath. If you have no interest in or enjoyment of abnormal and bloodthirsty deaths in close-up, you should definitely avoid this film. "
“The bloodthirsty as well as violent horror thriller does not set any new accents, but only eagerly cites the genre specifications. Due to its ambivalent willingness to use violence, the film grabs the audience's nerves almost continuously. "
continuation
The filming of the sequel 3 from Hell began on March 13, 2018. According to the director's statements, the three antagonists from the predecessor will resume their roles in the sequel.
