Mary Woronov
Mary Woronov (born December 8, 1943 in Brooklyn , New York City ) is an American actress , writer and painter . Woronov was a member of Andy Warhol's Factory .
Life
In the 1960s, the tall, dark-haired beauty Woronov joined the Andy Warhol clique and initially acted as a go -go dancer at Warhol's Exploding Plastic Inevitable shows. The sadomasochistic “whip dance” of the attractive, always cold-looking woman to the roaring sounds of Velvet Undergrounds Venus in Furs was provocative for the time (together with Warhol employee Gerard Malanga ). A longer sequence in Warhol's film The Chelsea Girls shows Woronov being visibly affected by amphetaminesis intoxicated as “Hanoi Hanna” tormenting her roommate with words and deeds. As she writes in her autobiography Swimming Underground , the actress also belonged to the “Mole People” in the vicinity of the Factory, a group of speed freaks who partied all night and went through violent drug psychoses .
In the late 1960s, Voronov left the factory and spent several years in Europe after a drug withdrawal . After returning to the United States, she took on various off-Broadway engagements. After a brief liaison with director and producer Theodore Gershuny , she moved to Los Angeles at the invitation of her friend Paul Bartel , in whose films she played several roles . One of her best-known roles is that of Mary Bland in Eating Raoul . In 1990 she was nominated for the Independent Spirit Award for Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal in luxury, sex and lotter life .
In addition to her acting work, Mary Woronov has earned a reputation as a painter and writer.
