action

On the planet Pluton, a monster is converted into pure energy by an alien in the mutant crushing facility of the local health department and sent into space as a flash of energy. This flash finally ends up in the newly installed TV satellite system of the American family Putterman, which after initial difficulties are now looking through their new TV programs. Daughter Suzy then introduces her new friend, OD, to the family, with whom she goes out. Parents Stanley and Raquel also go out to meet a couple. The grandfather and his grandson Sherman stay at home and watch horror films together, with image disturbances in which a monster can be seen. After the two fell asleep on the sofa, they are surprised by the monster and are shocked. When they look around again, it is as if the earth has swallowed it. The grandfather is convinced that it was a burglar with a Halloween mask. Together they go to the family nuclear shelter and arm themselves. Meanwhile the TV technician friend Norton comes by and wants to repair the battered satellite system. When Sherman and his grandfather search the property for the alleged burglar, they find Norton in the garden and continue looking around the house. Norton is being eaten by the monster in the garden. Next, the grandfather is eaten in the living room as it materializes out of nowhere from the television, liquefies and absorbs it . Then Sherman holed up in the bunker and called the police, who thought his emergency call was a bad joke.

The parents arrive at home with the swinger couple. Unaware of Norton and the grandfather's absence, they think Sherman fantasizes after telling them what happened. Meanwhile, Stanley shows his guests the house, and they see a message on TV from the alien who sent the monster. This advises people urgently to destroy their satellite receivers and to switch off their TV sets for the next 200 years. However, they consider the message to be a science fiction film. The monster has meanwhile hidden in the bunker. When Sherman's mother, Raquel, calls for Grandpa, the monster mutates part of his body into the head of the absorbed grandfather and answers her with his voice, hiding his real body. Since she doesn't believe her son, she is annoyed and wants to devote herself to her guests for a tête-à-tête again, she locks him up in the bunker with her supposed grandfather. When Sherman searches the bunker for the monster, however, it is gone. In the bunker television he sees the warning from the alien, who identifies himself as Pluthar, the health minister and garbage collector of the planet Pluton. A waste energy beam has lost its way to earth and could result in the total annihilation of humanity. Sherman also thinks he's watching a movie and doesn't attach any importance to it. When suddenly the message stopped, he saw the horror show with the host "Medusa". He calls her live and describes his situation to her. She also thinks it's a bad joke, mocks it and hangs up.

When the swinger Spiro goes to his supposed wife Cherry in the house pool while the putterman parents are talking in the kitchen, he is eaten by the monster that his wife ate and absorbed beforehand. When the puttermans check on their guests, they are also eaten and absorbed. When Sherman hears their screams, he calls the police again from the bunker phone, who again doesn't believe him and threatens with consequences. He takes his grandfather's explosives and blows the bunker door open to free himself. At the same time his sister Suzy comes back with her boyfriend OD. Sherman explains what happened to them. She does not believe him that her parents and all guests were killed. To make sure, however, the siblings look into their parents' bedroom, where they find their supposed parents, the swinger couple and their grandfather in bed together, making fake lovemaking, with the monster hiding its body under the covers. Disturbed, the two go into the living room, where Pluthar reports again on the television. All of a sudden, however, the monster materializes through the television set and chases the three. Sherman fires his assault rifle at the monster, but this has no effect. When OD is about to be eaten, he extends his arms protectively, the monster seeing his studded bracelets and happily reminding himself of its former owner, who wore studded gloves and nursed and fed him. When they notice that it obeys, Suzy and Sherman also put on rivet bracelets and feed them with food. They manage to teach him a few words and their names. Meanwhile, they still don't know that everyone else in the house is really dead. Since they can train it, they decide to capitalize on the monster. You are watching "Medusa" with her horror show on TV and calling her to offer it to her for appearances. She initially refuses, but tells them that she may come to their home later to see it.

Then the doorbell rings. Suzy opens a police officer with an arrest warrant for Sherman for his alleged emergency phone pranks. On TV, Sherman and OD see Pluthar again, who warns that the monster's appetite is uncontrollable because the slightest excitement is enough to trigger a monstrous appetite. The monster recognizes the alien it banished and gets angry, whereupon it eats OD. The policeman hears the noise and goes into the house, where he is also eaten. The siblings flee into the bunker and destroy the television set there so that they cannot reach the monster. They decide to kill the monster, arm themselves and search the house for him and their parents. While searching, they destroy all televisions they pass by. In the bedroom they find the remains of their parents. You finally find the monster in the swimming pool room, where it sits in the pool in front of the last working television set and watches television. Sherman tries to toss the satellite cable remote control into the pool to electrocute it. However, the electric shock does not have the hoped-for effect and both flee into the living room, where the alien Pluthar materializes from the defective television and offers them his help. You learn from him that the monster was actually once a tame pet and that the creature is called "hungry beast" by the aliens. However, these "hungry beasts" have a tendency to mutate , then they eat everything they see. When this occurs, they need to be "exterminated". During the extermination, they are then converted into pure energy in an apparatus in the sense of garbage disposal and teleported to distant areas of the universe . Pluthar expresses his condolences for the victims, but also tells them that their parents can still be saved. To do this, they have to isolate their absorbed DNA from the beast by extraction and can get it back through serum cultures. Meanwhile, “Medusa” is dropped off by her chauffeur in front of the putterman's house, goes inside and sees Pluthar and the siblings in the living room. She mistakenly thinks that Pluthar is threatening them with his weapon and breaks his glass spacesuit helmet, causing him to die of loss of pressure. The next moment the monster comes out of the wall and tries to suck everyone into its mouth. Sherman takes up Pluthar's beam weapon and shoots, but misses his target and is eaten along with Suzy and "Medusa". When morning comes, "Medusa", who is now an (obvious) part of the beast, wakes her waiting driver from the back seat and instructs him to drive to the TV studio.
