Paul Bartel

Paul Bartel (born August 6, 1938 in New York City , New York , † May 13, 2000 there ) was an American film director , screenwriter and actor . He is considered a pioneer of trash film .

Life

Bartel studied at the University of California, Los Angeles and at the Centro Sperimental di Cinematografica in Rome . His graduation film, the short film Progetti , was shown at the 1962 Venice Festival . Bartel's first feature-length film as a director was horror at its end in 1972 . By 1993, eight more feature films followed, some of which he also wrote the scripts for. He also worked as a director and screenwriter for television series.

Bartel has also appeared in numerous films, such as Brian De Palma's Hi, Mom! and in Michael Almereyda's Hamlet film. In total, he was involved in more than 90 productions as an actor.

Bartel was a member of the jury for the Berlinale in 1979 .

Bartel was suffering from cancer and died of a heart attack on May 13, 2000, shortly after he had an operation on his liver. He was only 61 years old.
