Victor Bockris (* 1949 in Sussex ) is an English-born American journalist and author .

Life

He is considered the most important chronicler of the New York underground scene - he primarily deals with the 1960s and early 1970s. In his knowledgeable biographies, he mostly sheds light on the rise, fall, fall and comeback of the protagonists and antagonists of the American rock and independent scene . Based on his insider knowledge and personal acquaintances, Bockris describes the life, loves and sorrows of the New York music scene. The writer has been a quasi “village chronicler” and an intimate connoisseur of New York bohemianism since the 1960s. He edited the first volume of Patti Smith's poetry , Seventh Heaven , in 1972 . He has also published biographies on The Velvet Underground , Keith Richards , Blondie , Lou Reed , William S. Burroughs , Muhammad Ali and Andy Warhol .
