Švihov (German Schwihau ) is a town in Plzeňský kraj , Czech Republic . It is located about 10 kilometers north of Klatovy in the Úhlava valley .
On the southern edge of the town is one of the largest moated castles in Bohemia, Švihov Castle . The moated castle was extensively rebuilt from 1480, probably with the help of Benedikt Ried . Two residential wings form the core of the castle. In the east there is a chapel, in the west a mighty tower dominates. The moats are still partially preserved. The castle is open to visitors.
