history

Obytce was first mentioned in writing in 1227. The village is the ancestral home of Vladikengeschlechts Obytecký of Obytec. In the 14th century the Obytecký built a water fortress, which was rebuilt and expanded in the second half of the 16th century. Various noble families replaced each other as owners of the estate. Among them were Messrs Kotz von Dobrz and later the Counts von Unwerth, who had the baroque palace built in place of the fortress. Victoria von Unwerth also acquired the Otín and Předslav estates in 1735 . From 1789 the rule belonged to the Counts of Thun and Hohenstein and from 1827 to the Order of Malta .

After the abolition of patrimonial Obytce / Obitz formed from 1850 with the districts Kroměždice and Myslovice a municipality in the Klattau district and judicial district Klattau. From 1868 the community belonged to the Klattau district . Kroměždice broke up in 1878, in 1890 Myslovice became independent. The Maltese sold the castle and estate in 1920. After the Second World War, the castle was nationalized. On July 1, 1975 Habartice was incorporated (with Kvaslice and Vítkovice). A little later Obytce lost its independence and came on April 30, 1976 as a district of Klatovy . Since November 24, 1990 the Obytce commune has existed again.
