history

In the 13th century there was a fortress of the Lords of Drslavice near Biřkov. The village was first mentioned in writing in 1245, when Queen Kunigunde gave her consent to the sale of Přeštice by Břetislav von Biřkov. In 1275 the village was called Bierkov and in 1339 Birzkow . The Vladiken Biřkovský von Biřkov held the festivals until 1379, after which various small nobility took turns as owners. In 1485 Jan von Roupov bought the Biřkov estate and joined it to Roupov. With this the fortress lost its importance as a manor house and fell into disrepair. When the Roupov estate was sold to Johann von Klenau in 1607, it is listed as desolate. In the course of time the village was called Byrzkow , Bierzkow , Bieržkov and Birschkau .

After the abolition of patrimonial Biřkov formed from 1850 with the district Zderaz a municipality in the judicial district of Přestice. From 1868 the community belonged to the Přestice district . At the end of the 19th century, 230 people lived in the 34 houses in the village. In the course of the municipal reform, Biřkov was incorporated into Křenice in 1961 and assigned to the Okres Klatovy . Since January 1st, 1992 Biřkov has again formed its own municipality.
