Břežany (German Breschan ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic . It is located seven kilometers northwest of Horažďovice and belongs to the Okres Klatovy .

geography

The village is located at the southern foot of the 627 meter high Slavník and is surrounded in the west and south by several ponds fed by the Mlýnský potok, of which the Břežanský velký rybník is the largest.

Neighboring towns are Týřovice and Velešice in the north, Třebomyslice in the east, Malý Bor in the south-east, Hradešice in the south, Smrkovec in the south-west, Zahrádka and Velenovy in the west and Těchonice and Neprochovy in the north-west.

history

The first written mention of the village comes from 1319.

Břežany is a place where agriculture plays an important role. Approx. 50 chalets in the village are used for tourism and the place has about 130 places to stay. The average age in 2003 was 40 years. A decline in the number of inhabitants to 115 is forecast by 2015.
