Kaluppe , also Chaluppe , comes from the West Slavic "chalupa", which describes a simple house (farmhouse, farmhouse, country house) with a garden or a small field for self-sufficiency.

The colloquial Kaluppe or Kaluppbude for a simple, poorly or carelessly built house emerged from this in the vernacular . This term is mostly used today in Austrian German .

In the Sudetenland , “Chalupner” often appears as a cottage , derived from the Czech chalupa = hut, or chalupník = cottage. Today in the Czech Republic the term chalupa is often used next to the word chata as a term for weekend houses , but also for smaller half timbered houses .
