history

Because of the recurring flood damage caused by Desse (Desná) and Kamnitz (Kamenice), dams should be built at the same time on the White and Black Desse . The projects came from the engineers Otto Intze from Aachen and W. Plenkner from Prague and were confirmed in 1908 . Construction of the dam began on August 18, 1911. The technology for the dam construction was implemented in 1912 for the construction of the dam on the White Desse . The construction cost 1,454,882 Austrian crowns and was completed in 1915.

For the construction of the dam, the 14 houses of the hamlet of Hinterdarre and large parts of Vorderdarre ( Souš in Czech ) had to be removed. Some have been rebuilt in other locations by their owners.

After the dam of the dam on the White Desse was broken on September 18, 1916 , the Darretalsperre was lowered to a third of its capacity to be on the safe side. Between 1924 and 1927 the dam was completely drained and further safety measures were carried out.

The dam used to be a well-known local recreation area and angler's paradise with 86 hectares of water. This changed when the dam was drained again from 1970 to 1973 and converted into a drinking water dam for the city of Jablonec nad Nisou (Gablonz) and its surroundings. This means that no other use of the water is possible. The dam is quiet and secluded in the mountains of the Jizera Mountains .
