history

City Hall on Freedom Square

Schüttenhofen was first mentioned in a document in 1233. At that time it was owned by the Bavarian Count von Bogen . After the Bohemian Duke Vladislav II transferred Schüttenhofen as a foundation to the newly founded Windberg Monastery in 1142 , it came to Heinrich XIII. , Duke of Bavaria. In 1257 Přemysl Otakar II occupied the area around Schüttenhofen, which was then contractually ceded to the Kingdom of Bohemia in 1273 . Because of its strategically important location, Schüttenhofen was expanded to become a royal city and fortified. The gold panning on the Wottawa and the location on the Goldener Steig , which favored the salt, malt and grain trade with Bavarian cities, contributed to the economic development .

During the Hussite period the Taborites played an important role. Protestantism took hold in the city in the 16th century . The subsequent violent Counter-Reformation resulted in numerous confiscations of urban goods. 1678–1681 the population suffered an epidemic of the plague, and in 1707 a fire devastated large parts of the city. Another economic boom followed in the 19th century with the establishment of the world-famous match production of the Solo company by the carpenter Vojtech Scheinost in 1839.

After the lifting of patrimonial was Schüttenhofen / Sušice 1850 seat of a district court and formed with the districts Brabschow / Brabšov , Rothenhof / Červené Dvorce , lower suburban / Dolejší Sušice , Upper suburban / Horejsi Sušice and Zalusch-chute Hofener proportion / Zaluš a town in the jurisdiction Schüttenhofen. From 1868 the city was the administrative seat of the district of Schüttenhofen . In 1888, the town was connected to the railway network with the commissioning of the Horažďovice předměstí – Klatovy railway, but Schüttenhofen station was two and a half kilometers northeast of the city center at the confluence of the Wottawa and Wostruzna rivers . At the end of the 19th century, the Podmokler share came from Zalusch to Schüttenhofen. The districts Lower Suburb / Dolní Předměstí and Upper Suburb / Horní Předměstí were abolished in 1924 and united with Schüttenhofen.

According to the Munich Agreement , the predominantly German-speaking districts of Brabshow and Zalusch were separated from Schüttenhofen in 1938 and added to the German Reich as districts of the communities Langendorf and Albrechtsried with the Sudetenland, and in 1939 connected to Bavaria with the district of Bergreichenstein . After the Second World War, Vrabcov and Záluží came back to Sušice and most of the German residents were expelled . In the course of the territorial reform of 1960, the Okres Sušice was repealed; Sušice lost its status as a district town and was assigned to the Okres Klatovy . In 1961, Dobršín and Volšovy were incorporated (with Dolní Staňkov and Stráž). At the same time Divišov from Dlouhá Ves , Rok from Podmokly and Nuzerov and Páteček from Dolejší Krušec to Sušice were umgemeindet. On April 30, 1976 Albrechtice (with Humpolec, Milčice), Chmelná and Podmokly were incorporated. The core town of Sušice was divided into the three districts Sušice I, Sušice II and Sušice III in 1980. Dobršín and Podmokly broke away from Sušice in the 1990s and formed their own communities. Solo ceased production in 2008 and only sells goods made in Asia. As a result, many people lost their jobs.
