Roman past

The municipality of Niederanven has a Roman past. In addition to the remains of the "gill", other archaeological finds have been made in this area to prove this.

Roman lime kiln in Senningen

In 1938 a group of hikers came across the remains of a lime kiln between the districts of Senningen and the Senningerberg . Already at this time it was assumed that this lime kiln could have come from the Roman era. This assumption was only confirmed in 1999 after a review by the University of Cologne . Using a piece of wood that was found next to the lime kiln, the researchers were able to specify more precisely when the kiln was erected. They agreed on the period between 65 and 75 AD. The Roman origin of the kiln is proven by the fact that it is a lime kiln. Lime was introduced as a building material by the Romans in this region. It was used as a binding agent in buildings. Why Niederanven or the then Andethanna was chosen as the location to burn lime is still not entirely clear , especially in view of the fact that there is no limestone in this area . It is likely, however, that this place was chosen primarily because of its good transport connections: the Roman road between Reims and Trier ran through Andethanna . In addition, Trier was a good sales market for the extracted lime.

Headquarters of the fanfare "La Réunion" Hostert
Fanfare "La Réunion" Hostert

In the summer of 1908, Hostert first came up with the idea of founding a musical association. After initial doubts about the feasibility of such a project, Hosterter Musik (Hueschterter Musek) was provisionally founded on August 1, 1908. Two months later, after 25 musicians had come together, the association called "Fanfare réunie de Hostert" was definitely formed. Pierre Pütz was the first conductor. At the same time an associated committee was elected, from which Pierre Theisen emerged as president. The costs for the first 24 instruments amounted to 1855 Luxembourg francs , all of which were financed by donations from the residents of Hostert. From the beginning, the “Fanfare réunie de Hostert” played at anniversary celebrations, weddings, wine festivals and at spiritual events in the parish church of Hostert . In 2008 the 100th anniversary of the "Fanfare Réunie de Hostert" was celebrated. The number of musicians (50) (2008) has doubled compared to the beginning, 24 (1908).

Fëscherclub Neibaach

The "Fëscherclub Neibaach" was founded on March 3rd, 1961 in Niederanven. The first president of the committee was Nicolas Emeringer. In the year it was founded, the association joined the FLPS ( Fédération Luxembourgeoise des Pêcheurs sportifs ). The goal was to strengthen the community of fishermen friends in the community. Until 1975, the club's club was Café Winter in Niederanven. Then the association moved to Café Streitz, the so-called "Humpe-Leo", for another nine years, until in 1984 a room in the old fire station in Senningen became the headquarters of the fishing association. In addition to organized festivals such as the "Fëscherfest", which has been held since 1961, the club also competes at national level. The greatest successes were the double national championship in sport fishing by Marie-Louise Pütz in 1971 and 1974, as well as winning the same competition in the junior category by Serge Binsfeld in 1986. Since the founding year 1961 the club had a total of 120 members. The maximum number was reached in 1964 with 57 members. Today, due to a lack of interest, especially among young people, there are fewer and fewer.

Twin cities

Niederanven is one of the founding members of the Douzelage city union , in which one city from one country of the European Union is represented.
