Senningerberg ( lux . : Sennengerbierg ; French : Senningerberg ) is a village in the municipality of Niederanven (lux .: Nidderaanwen) in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and belongs to the canton of Luxembourg . The village has 1620 inhabitants (as of 2015).
history
Between Senningen and Senningerberg there is a Roman lime kiln that was found in 1938. On the basis of a piece of wood that was found next to the lime kiln, an operating period at least around 65 and 75 AD could be determined. Since there are no lime deposits in the area, it is assumed that this location was chosen primarily because of the good transport connections, as the Roman road between Reims and Trier ran near Sennigen and Trier was probably a good sales market for quicklime .
The name of the place is mentioned for the first time in 1842 on the original cadastre. Senningerberg experienced a first significant boom when the narrow-gauge railway from Luxembourg to Echternach was put into operation in 1904. Senningerberg and the Grünewald became an easily accessible excursion destination for the population of Luxembourg City and the surrounding area. Until then, the place was sparsely populated with only 22 houses and 4 manors (the Parishof, the Münsterhof, the Franzosengrund and the Höhenhof).
Thanks to the railway, it was now possible to build quarries and send the stones. Several large quarries were in operation on the Senningerberg until the middle of the 20th century. In addition, there were restaurants for the day trippers (e.g. Senningen station opposite the train station, Café Wiltzius, Café de la Gare or the hotel-restaurant Tonnar).
As the population grew, it was also necessary to improve the local infrastructure. In 1916/1917 water pipes were laid and in 1918 the old water tower was built.

traffic
From 1904 to 1954 a narrow-gauge railway ran from Luxembourg to Echternach. This was popularly called Charly . Of the Senningerberg and Hostert train stations , only the Hostert train station remains. On the former Charly railway line , most of the cycle path now leads from Luxembourg to Echternach.
The Sebes water tower (built from 1973 to 1975, popularly also known as the mushroom ) has been standing very close to the broken old station building of the Senningerberg station since 1975 .
religion
In 1947 a chapel was built from hewn sandstone on the initiative of Pastor Jos Biwer. On October 12, 1947, the chapel was consecrated to Our Lady of Loretto . In 2001 the chapel was converted into a multi-purpose hall ( salle polyvalente ). An older chapel stands in the Rue des Romains, which is dedicated to Our Lady of Sorrows and was built in 1911 by Nicholas Adam in neo-Gothic style.
