The Roman Catholic Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary (also: lux . : Kierch vu Nidderaanwen ; French : Église de l'Assomption de la Bienheureuse-Vierge-Marie ) in Niederanven (lux .: Nidderaanwen ) in the canton of Luxembourg in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg belongs to the parish Niederanven of the New Parish Sector East (lux .: Parverband Nei Par Sector East ), Pastorlaregion Luxemburg (lux .: Pastoralregioun Lëtzebuerg ) and thus to the Dean's Office of Luxemburg and to the Archbishopric of Luxemburg (lux .: Äerzbistum Lëtzebuerg ), which includes the entire Grand Duchy of Luxemburg .

The church is dedicated to Our Lady .

location

The church is located in the municipality of Niederanven on the Route de Trêves, the N1. To the west of the church is the Niederanven youth center. The church stands on the border between the districts of Niederanven and Senningen and is used by the residents of both districts.

building

The building of the church was constructed in a playful neo-Gothic style. The nave has a continuous gable roof and is largely oriented north-south, with the church tower in the north, in the direction of the Route de Trêves and the retracted choir in the south .

The nave is largely white and is brightly lit through the windows. The playfulness of the outer lines is not continued inside. The choir arch is also designed as a simple pointed arch without much ornamentation. Both in the nave and in the choir there is a pointed arch vault , which is given an attractive architectural effect by the optical highlighting of the ribs.

The main entrance portal to the north leads through the church tower and is flanked on both sides by a round gate tower . Above the portal there is a round window (rosette) with ornaments , above it in turn an elongated defining pointed arch window with ornaments. The windows of the church building were made between 1918 and 1931. The windows in the nave come from the company Binsfeld and Co. or E. Simminger and partly show ornaments with Christ symbols, partly biblical figures.

The organ with 19 registers, two manuals and pedal was manufactured in 1930 by the company Georges Haupt from Lintgen in 1938. In 1990 the organ was removed. A three-manual digital organ made by Johannus (model Sweelinck 30) has been in use since 2005.

graveyard

The cemetery of the Church of the Assumption (French: Cimetière de Église de l'Assomption de la Bienheureuse-Vierge-Marie ; lux .: Kierfecht Nidderaanwen ) is laid out around the church. The urn graves are in the southern part.
