history
Kvilda is located on the Goldener Steig , where it was founded at the end of the 15th century . Like many communities in the area, Kvilda had a glass factory since 1794 . In 1765 the Catholic parish church of St. Stephan was built, which fell victim to a major fire in 1889. After this catastrophe, Kvilda and its church (then in neo-Gothic style) were rebuilt by 1894. At the beginning of the 19th century, two companies were established in the village that were soon known far beyond the borders of the Bohemian Forest. In 1820 Peter Strunz began to produce resonance wood for musical instruments because of the exceptional altitude of the place and soon became a worldwide supplier for such special woods and their processing products. The Strunz company settled in Pocking in Lower Bavaria after it was expelled in 1946 . Also at the beginning of the 19th century , Johann Verderber, from Kočevje in the Krain region , founded a manufacture for reverse glass painting in Aussergefild. In particular, she produced reverse glass pictures with religious motifs. After 1884, this reverse glass manufacture was continued by Gabriel Schuster. During the Second World War, Franzensthal had an underground manufacturing facility owned by Messerschmitt AG , which was built in 1941 in the former paper factory under the cover name Möbelwerke Franzensthal . In 1945/46 most of the German-speaking residents were expelled.
Attractions
Museums
The municipality of Kvilda has set up a similar museum of local history in the town hall, which, like the museum rooms in Mauth, is a reminder of the town's tradition as a stronghold of reverse glass painting , the production of resonance wood for musical instruments, and skiing and tourism.
In 2001, the Prague entrepreneur and former sportsman Václav Vitovec laid the foundation stone in Kvilda for a museum he planned for the Iron Curtain , which will commemorate the border with Western Europe, which was hermetically sealed by the communist regimes of the Czech Republic and the Soviet Union until 1989 . The construction work for the museum did not get beyond the laying of the foundation stone until 2006.
Buildings
Kvilda is the first village on the upper reaches of the Warm Vltava . The village is also a theme in the symphonic poem Die Moldau from the cycle My Fatherland by the Bohemian composer Bedřich Smetana (1824–1884). The dancing elves in the Moldauauau and dance music (polka) describe a festival of the people, the peasant wedding, in a melody . Today Kvilda is a tourist resort and tourist center of the Czech Biosphere Reserve Šumava .
Behind the Catholic parish church of St. Stephan lie the remains of the cemetery, which was almost completely removed in the early 1980s. After the church had fallen into the postwar period, it was after the turn renovated from 1994 to 1999 with the help of German donations. In the Bavarian community of Mauth , about 10 km from Kvilda, there is a small local history museum in the local town hall, which was set up by the community of the former Aussergefilder before 1989. The municipality of Mauth organizes a home meeting of the former Aussergefilder every two years, who are scattered all over Germany, but mostly live in the Schwandorf and Regensburg area.
