history

The area in the Bohemian Forest had belonged to the Witigonen at Wittigstein Castle since the Middle Ages and was made up of dense forests. According to oral tradition, the first house in Neuofen has been in existence since 1577. In the middle of the 17th century the village of Neuofen was founded by Johann Christian von Eggenberg . The place, which at the time consisted of only two courtyards, was first mentioned in a document in 1653. When the male Eggenberg family died out in 1717 , Neuofen fell to the Schwarzenbergs . In the Theresian cadastre of 1757 Neuofen is already shown with 27 houses.

In 1892, the railway from Budweis to Salnau started running , which was continued to Haidmühle in 1910 (see railway line České Budějovice – Černý Kříž ). Around 1900 Neuofen consisted of 66 houses and had 476 inhabitants.

Nová Pec is now part of the Šumava National Park and Protected Landscape Area and is characterized by a very diverse nature.
