history

Archaeological finds prove an early settlement of the area. There are barrows in the vicinity of the village.

The first written mention of the village was in 1354 as the property of Otakar von Budkov. The Budkov Fortress was the ancestral seat of the Budkovský Vladiken family . The owners of the estate included u. a. from 1350 to 1373 Albert von Budkov, later Hrzek Turovský von Budkov and his son Jeniš. In 1468, Passau troops invaded Budkov as allies of Johann von Rosenberg and burned down the village and the fortress. The festivals belonging to Hynek von Budkov were first mentioned in writing in this context. The ruined village then had only four residents; Most of the farmers had fled the Passau region and did not return. Between 1485 and 1518 the manor belonged to Hrzek von Budkov. Mikuláš Budkovský von Budkov joined the rebels during the uprising of 1618. After the battle of the White Mountain , his estates Budkow and Chaholata Lhota were confiscated and in 1620 forcibly appropriated by Martin de Hoeff Huerta. He sold the goods in 1622 for 6200 guilders to Anna Maximiliana Katharina Hieserle Freiin von Chodow, née von Schönhof. In 1676, Count Karl Leopold Caretto von Milessimo acquired the Budkow and Chaholata Lhota estates from Wenzel Michael Hieserle Freiherr von Chodow (Václav Michal Hýzrle z Chodů) and joined them to his rule Birken . After Count Caretto, who immigrated from Italy, the estate was now called Wällischbirken . Caretto later sold the estate to Matthias Freiherr von Wunschwitz, who in 1680 sold it to Gundakar von Dietrichstein . He was able to acquire other goods and had them combined into an entails commission by Emperor Leopold I in 1689 . Fideikommiss fell to his nephew Ferdinand Joseph von Dietrichstein in 1690 and then remained in the possession of the imperial princes of Dietrichstein . The last feudal landlord was Franz Joseph von Dietrichstein-Proskau-Leslie from 1808 . In 1840 Budkau / Budkow consisted of 38 houses with 282 inhabitants. In the village there was a Meierhof, a Mutton farm and an inn. On the other side was a single-layer mill (Budkovský Mlýn) . The parish was Wällischbirken . Until the middle of the 19th century, the village was always subject to the entails rule Wällischbirken.

After the abolition of patrimonial formed Budkov / Budkau 1850 a municipality in the district administration Prachatice . During the land reform of 1924, the Budkov estate was partially parceled out and the remainder was sold together with the Meierhof to the former Herberstein estate manager Antonín Fridrich. After Prachatice had to be ceded to the German Reich in 1938 as a result of the Munich Agreement , Budkov remained with Czechoslovakia and belonged to the Písek district and the judicial district of Netolice between 1938 and 1945. After the end of the Second World War, the village came back to Okres Prachatice. On April 30, 1976 Budkov was incorporated into Chlumany , and together with this on July 1, 1980 to Vlachovo Březí . After a referendum, Budkov broke away from Vlachovo Březí on November 24, 1990 and formed its own municipality.
