history

The Künischen free farmers settled in the 14th century, possibly already since the 11th century in the Künischen mountains , were subject to the king and emperor, cultivated the wilderness and secured the borders. Due to the rather barren soil, glassmakers came here from Bavaria at the beginning of the 16th century, and the forest chief, who was appointed to the free court of the free farmers, assigned unplotted forest areas. Since the raw materials were firewood, potash, sand and lime, it was later even possible to operate 4 glassworks at the same time.

Stachau therefore consisted of several larger and smaller groups of houses and individual farms, which are partly scattered in a valley in a south-westerly, partly in a westerly and north-westerly direction. In the land register of 1654 there is still a purely German-speaking population; In 1713 some Czech names appeared who had married in from the surrounding villages, which also belonged to the Patzau parish, or who lived as unskilled workers in the glassworks settlements. In 1713 the visitation commission remarked that it was "unbelievable" that "not a single craftsman or trader should be here". The Chief Justice Gerl noted that "one or the other craftsman is here [...], but without a fixed domicile [...] here himself today, but tomorrow as free people [...] even outside the country [. ..] to go ".

From 1713 the number of houses in Stachau quintupled and the population was now almost 50% Bohemian speaking. The emigration of the "free arts" increased and new glassworks were built in many places. The inhabitants of the village and the surrounding remote farms were now predominantly Czech. Furthermore, the population in the region lived off their work as glassmakers and made wooden products and shingles.

In 1781 the Church of the Seven Sorrows of Mary was built and Stachau becomes its own parish.

Since the 18th century, the Künische Freigericht Stachau was subject to protection with the Stubenbach estate , from 1800 with the allodial rule Stubenbach and Langendorf .

In 1995, Stachy and the location of Chalupy were declared village monument zones. There is a winter sports center in Zadov.
