history

The place on the Warm Vltava in the Bohemian Forest was only created in 1834 when Johann Meyr built a glassworks . Johann Adolf II Prince zu Schwarzenberg (1799–1888), who owned the forest area, gave the settlement the name Eleonorenhain in honor of his wife Eleonore. Princess Eleonore von Schwarzenberg (1812–1873) was a daughter of Moritz von Liechtenstein and Marie Leopoldine Esterházy von Galánthá (1788–1846).

Around 1859 the place was one of the largest glassworks in Bohemia . With the expulsion of the German-speaking population after 1945, the glassworks, which was last owned by the brothers Alfons and Siegfried Kralik, was nationalized.

On a hill there is a memorial in memory of Andreas Hartauer , who created the song Tief drin im Böhmerwald . The Bohemian composer Bedřich Smetana stayed in Eleonorenhain several times because of his tinnitus in order to recover. His stay in Eleonorenhain is documented by an entry in the guest book of the tourist house run by the Kralik family. It is assumed that he was inspired for his work Die Moldau here near the source of the Moldau .

Next to the castle is the Rechle , a covered wooden bridge over the Warm Vltava, the most famous building in the area.
