Babice (German Bowitz ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic . It is located 18 kilometers northwest of the city center of České Budějovice and belongs to the Okres Prachatice .
geography
Babice is located north of Blanský les in the valley basin of Lužický potok.
Neighboring towns are Hlodačky in the north, Mahouš in the northeast, Zvěřetice and Sedlovice in the east, Radošovice and Strýčice in the southeast, Chvalovice in the south, Dolní Chrášťany in the southeast and Lužice and Netolice in the northwest.
history
The first written mention of the village took place in 1259 under the name Vávice .
The place name Babice has been used since 1880. After the abolition of patrimonial the municipality belonged to the Prachatice District, became part of the Český Krumlov District in the 20th century and to Okres Vodňany in 1950. After its dissolution in 1960, Babice came back to Okres Prachatice and was incorporated into Chvalovice at the same time. On April 30, 1976 the Umgemeinde from Babice to Němčice took place . Since November 24, 1990, Babice has once again formed a parish.
The district of Zvěřetice largely consists of buildings in the Bohemian peasant baroque and has been declared a village monument zone.
