The Blanský les (formerly Plánský les , German Blansker Wald , also Plansker Wald ) is a northeastern foothills of the Bohemian Forest . The highest peak is the Kleť (Schöninger) mountain at 1083 m . The mountain range has a horseshoe shape open to the southeast, in the center of which lies the Křemžská kotlina ( Kremser Basin ) through which the Křemžský potok flows .

The name derives from the Plánský farm , which is located southwest below the Kleť in a clearing on the saddle to the Ohrada (886 m), Bílý kámen (930 m) and Pískový vrch (803 m) and from a Rosenberg subject named Václav Plánský Was founded in 1539. The Kle H was also referred to as Plánská hora after this Hegerhaus . From the original name Plánský les or Plansk Forest , the current name Blanský les developed over time .

The Blansk Forest is located north of the town of Český Krumlov (Krumau an der Moldau) . It extends north to the vicinity of Netolice and includes parts of the districts of Český Krumlov , České Budějovice (Budweis) and Prachatice (Prachatitz) . The Blanský les goes northeast into the Českobudějovická pánev . In the southeast the Vltava valley , in the south the Chvalšinský potok and in the west the Netolický potok form a natural border. To the south, in the Bohemian Forest, the depopulated terrain of the largest Czech military training area Boletice joins.

Geologically it is a " granulite mountains" with minor occurrences of serpentinite and marble . The mountains are mainly made up of beech forests.

In 1990, the nature reserve of the same name was established in Blanský les with an area of ​​212.35 km². The nature reserves of Vyšenské kopce, Kleť, Dívčí Kámen, Kalamandra, Bořinka, Holubovské hadce, Jaronínská bučina, Vysoká Běta , Šimečkova stráň, Dobročkkovské hadce, Nařážka , Mhoěbána skka, Mhoěbána skána . In the mountains there is the largest colony of the mountain ant in the Czech Republic , with over 3000 nests on about 300 hectares .

In addition to the town of Český Krumlov , the peasant baroque village Holašovice , the Kleť , the monastery Zlatá Koruna (Goldenkron) and the ruins of the castles Dívčí Kámen (Maidstein) and Kuklov (Kugelweid) are among the most important cultural and historical places of the Blansk Forest .
