Kuklov Castle and Monastery

Kuklov Castle and Monastery (German Kugelweid, also Kuglweit, Kuglwaid ) are located three kilometers north of Brloh pod Kletí in Blanský les in the Czech Republic .

The Kuklov Fortress stood on a rocky ridge above the Křemžský potok valley and was surrounded by a rectangular bailey. In the vicinity of today's ruins are the remains of the Paulaner monastery , which was built at the end of the 15th century.

history

The castle complex was built around 1357 on a wooded hill. The client was the Vyšehrad provost and then bishop of Minden Dietrich von Kugelweit (Jetřich Mindenský). After his death in 1367, the complex fell to the Bohemian King Charles IV. During the revolt of the Bohemian nobles against King Wenceslaus IV. In 1395 Henry III conquered . von Rosenberg the castle. Since raids on the lands of the Rosenbergs had repeatedly been undertaken from her , she was destroyed by them and not rebuilt.

Nearby, in 1495 hermits of the Paulaner Order , who were called into the country by Peter IV von Rosenberg and his brother Ulrich , built a monastery. The construction including the Church of St. Andrew was not completed because the order abandoned the monastery around 1530. Settlements, a brewery and Rosenberger manors were gradually built in the vicinity, and building materials from the monastery buildings are said to have been used. During the Thirty Years War , the remains of the monastery were destroyed by the Swedish army.
