The castle Cuknštejn ( twitching stone ) was originally a Gothic fortification, the early 17th century in the style of the Renaissance was rebuilt. It is located in Terčino údolí ( Theresa Valley ) near the Stropnice brook , about three kilometers southwest of Nové Hrady and belongs to the South Bohemia region .
history
The castle Cuknštejn was built in the years 1488-1491 by the Vladiken Wilhelm Pouzar von Michnitz ( Vilém Pouzar z Michnic ). After a fire in 1618, it lost its function as a local mansion. In 1620 Emperor Ferdinand II gave it to Field Marshal Buquoy, together with the Gratzen rule . In the early 20th century, the castle, which remained in the possession of the Buquoy family until it was expropriated in 1945 , was renovated several times and saved from deterioration. During the communist years it fell into disrepair and after the Velvet Revolution came into private hands. Restoration work began in 2000, during which a Gothic chapel with poorly preserved frescoes was discovered.
