Strakonice Castle (German Strakonitz ) is located in the town of Strakonice in South Bohemia , Czech Republic .
The Bavoren von Strakonitz built the castle in the 13th century. The Romanesque complex housed an aristocratic castle and a Johanniterkommende. In 1402 it came completely into the possession of the Order of St. John . In the 15th century the main convent of the order was moved from Prague to Strakonice and the complex was extensively rebuilt. Further renovations in the Renaissance style followed in the 16th century. The striking shape of the drop-shaped corner or spur tower is striking.
The museum of the central Otava region is located in the castle, which is open to the public .
