history
The original castle with a chapel was built in the 13th century. The first written mention took place in 1235. From the 13th century the castle belonged to the Bavoren von Strakonitz . In the 15th century, during the reign of Zdeniek Lev von Rosental , it was converted into a moated castle. Lev's sister married Georg von Podiebrad and became Queen of Bohemia. From 1520 to 1530, the royal architect Benedikt Ried converted parts of it into an early Renaissance palace . The Lords of Rozdražov carried out a further expansion after 1575 and the Lords of Serény from 1695. In 1798 Wenzel Karl Hildprandt von und zu Ottenhausen bought the castle , whose family had it renovated by Bernhard Grueber from 1850 to 1856 . The castle is still in their hands today.
You can visit oriental rococo salons and hunting rooms. Most of the rooms are furnished with furniture from the 19th century. The oldest part of the castle is the Romanesque chapel from around 1220. The wall paintings in the knight's hall and the late Gothic castle date from the time of the Lords of Rosental .
The castle is located in the middle of a large English landscape garden with hundred-year-old trees.
