The Bechyně Castle (German Castle Bechin ) is a Renaissance castle in the South Bohemian Region , Czech Republic . It is located south of downtown Bechyně on a spur above the confluence of the Smutná and Lainsitz rivers and has been a protected cultural monument since 1958.
history
After Bechyně came to King Přemysl Ottokar II in 1268 , he built a castle that was first mentioned in 1283. It served as the administrative center of the Bechiner District ( Districtus Bechinensis ). Around 1340, the Lords of Sternberg acquired the town and castle, which was followed by Margrave Jobst of Moravia around 1400 . From this city and castle went to the treasurer and chief clerk Boček II of Podebrady († 1417). In 1414 he exchanged Bechyně with the royal chamberlain and governor of Wroclaw Heinrich von Lazan for the town and lordship of Nachod and the neighboring lordship of Hummel , which at that time belonged to Bohemia .
Although the town of Bechyně was conquered by the Hussites in 1422 , they did not manage to take the castle. In 1428 they besieged the castle again and gave it up after fifteen weeks against safe conduct. After the Hussite Wars, the descendants of Heinrich von Lazan, who were now called Bechinie von Lazan , brought Bechyně back into their possession. In 1477 it was again acquired by the von Sternbergs, who sold it to the von Schwanbergs in 1530 . Of these, it fell to Peter Wok von Rosenberg in 1569 . He resided at the castle in Bechyně until 1592, which he had converted into a Renaissance castle from 1578–1584 by the Italian builder Baldassare Maggi . Presumably because he had to move his seat to Krumlov Castle after the death of his brother Wilhelm von Rosenberg in 1592 , he again sold Bechyně to the Lords of Sternberg in 1596, from whom it was inherited by the Counts of Paar in 1761 . It remained with their descendants until the expropriation in 1948. Since the restitution, the chateau has been owned by Panství Bechyně sro
description
The castle's sights include the Gothic hall, which was created in 1515 by the Franconian master builder Wendel Roskopf , and the castle courtyard, which Gabriele de Blonde decorated with frescoes between 1570–1573 during the reign of Peter Wok von Rosenberg.
