Lnáře Castle (German: Schluesselburg ) is located in the town of the same name Lnáře on the road connecting Budweis to Pilsen , about 25 kilometers northwest of the town of Strakonitz in the Jihočeský kraj region ( Czech Republic ).

history

The first owners of the original castle were the knights ze Lnář (von Shlisselburg), who had a golden key on a blue background in their coat of arms. The first documented owner was Ulrich von Schluesselburg ( Oldřich ze Lnář ), a companion of King John of Luxembourg . On the advice of Emperor Charles IV, his descendants laid the first ponds and thus had a steadily growing fortune. The last of the noble family, which died out at the beginning of the 15th century, was Wilhelm von Shlisselburg ( Vilém ze Lnář ).

The property was bought by the Zmrzlík family from Welding Peter Zmrzlík from Welding , lord of Schluesselburg and Karlsberg , was a supporter of the Hussites and fought with his brother Johann at their side in the battle of Nekmíř . They later renounced the Taborites and in the Battle of Lipan they fought on the side of the Catholic Alliance. Wenceslaus von Zmrzlík, a Protestant, sold the castle to Zdeniek VI on April 25, 1564, before it could be confiscated by the crown. von Sternberg auf Blatná, fled with his money to Germany, where he died as the last of his family.

In 1577 the sons of Zdeniek ceded the heavily indebted property to their brother-in-law Wolf Neuburger von Kolowrat ( Volf Novohradský z Kolovrat ), who further expanded the pond management. His son sold it to Adam Sternberg on September 15, 1617. Adam, a Catholic, was given the post of burgrave after the Battle of White Mountain . Eva Johanna, the daughter of his son Jaroslav Wolf, who was later murdered by his chamberlain, sold the land on January 24, 1660 to Alexei Freiherr von Vratislav (Aleš Vratislav z Mitrovic ).

Alexei began building the early baroque castle in 1666 on the site of the original Gothic fortress. Construction work was finished in 1685. The lock then passed through several hands. The Czernin families , von Künigl and von Sporck , came and went to Leopold Leonhard Raymund von Thun , the last Prince-Bishop of Passau , who sold it to the Barons Linker von Lützenwick , who in turn transferred the castle to the Lords of Lilgenau .

In 1923 Karel Bonda bought the land, which he sold to the Prague lawyer Jindřich Vaníček in 1936 . The chateau was nationalized in 1948 and fell into disrepair until restoration work between 1972 and 1985. Since 1993, it has belonged again to the Vaníček family, who had previously been expropriated and opened it to the public in 1999.
