history

Dívčí kámen, the main castle in the west of the complex

Dívčí Kámen Castle is one of the few castles in Bohemia whose founding document has been preserved. In 1349 King Charles IV allowed the von Rosenberg family to build the castle. The castle not only had a military function, but was also the administrative center of the surrounding region. In 1394 it became the residence of the Bohemian King Wenzel IV for a short time when Heinrich von Rosenberg took him into captivity at Wildberg Castle in Upper Austria . At the time of the Hussite Wars , Ulrich II von Rosenberg had to briefly cede the Dívčí Kámen castle to Wilhelm von Pottenstein (Vilém z Potštejna). At the beginning of the 16th century , Peter IV von Rosenberg decided to leave the castle. The interior was to Krumlov brought (Český Krumlov), and the abandoned castle began to decay. As early as 1541 it was described as destroyed.

description

The castle consisted of three parts, namely the own residential castle, the upper bailey and the later built bailey ( Latran ) on the southern side. Dívčí Kámen was a typical example of Gothic castle architecture at the time of Emperor Charles IV.

The castle hill has very steep, partly vertical slopes and is covered with a relic forest. The forest has been under protection on 4.82 hectares as the Dívčí Kámen nature reserve since 1952 . The area of the castle ruins is included in the protected area. Not only the ruins of the medieval castle are worthy of preservation, but also the cultural layer underneath, which contains traces of Bronze Age settlement and is being archaeologically examined.

The educational trail Naučná stezka Třísov - Dívčí Kámen - Holubov , which runs past the castle ruins, was opened in 1999.
