Joachim Bahlcke

Joachim Bahlcke (born September 29, 1963 in Göttingen ) is a German historian and university professor. His main research interests include the social, constitutional and political history of East Central Europe .

Live and act

Joachim Bahlcke studied Eastern European, Modern and Modern History and Philosophy from 1984 to 1990 at the Universities of Trier , Vienna and Freiburg . During his studies he became a member of the Freiburg fraternity . After research stays at the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences in Prague and others in Croatia, Hungary, Austria, Slovakia and Poland, he received his doctorate in 1993 under Gottfried Schramm in Freiburg with the dissertation Regionalism and State Integration in Controversy. The lands of the Bohemian crown in the first century of Habsburg rule (1526–1619) . From 1993 to 2002 he was a research assistant at university and non-university institutes, most recently at the historical seminar of the University of Leipzig , where in early 2002 he dealt with the work of the Hungarian episcopate and the Austrian monarchy. From a partnership to confrontation (1686–1790) qualified as a professor . He then received a professorship for the history of East Central Europe at the University of Erfurt . On October 1, 2003, he was appointed to the chair for Early Modern History at the University of Stuttgart .

His main research interests include the social, constitutional and political history of Eastern Central Europe from the 15th to the 20th centuries, the history of the eastern territories of the empire and the history of German-Bohemian and German-Polish relations from the Middle Ages to the present.

Joachim Bahlcke wrote numerous monographs and essays. He is the editor of several series and specialist journals as well as a member of numerous scientific institutions, among others
