history

The place on the Goldener Steig from Winterberg to Passau was first mentioned in a document in 1257. Obermoldau belonged to the Winterberg domain, and the name Horní Vltavice has been documented since 1359 .

Since the 16th century there were numerous glassworks in the area, which were operated until the 18th century. In 1618 a mirror glass factory was founded in Obermoldau. The Rabenhütte, later Stegbauerhütte and later Gubischhütte on the mountain south of Obermoldau, was handed over to Martl Sellner by Lukas Schlemmer as early as 1562, according to Joseph Blau. Through his granddaughter Susanna Sellner, the hut became the property of her husband Georg Stegbauer around 1613. His grandson Hans Adam Stegbauer built a second hut around 1687. There were two glassworks owned by the Stegbauer family in Obermoldau, one for mirror glass and one for glass beads.

In 1858, on the initiative of the lordly forest master Josef John from Winterberg, part of the former royal border forest at the foot of the Pažení, a sub-peak of the Boubín (Kubany) , was declared the Kubany Primeval Forest (Boubínský prales) nature reserve . In 1910 Obermoldau had 465 German-speaking and 14 Czech-speaking residents in 64 houses.

After the Munich Agreement , Obermoldau was incorporated into the German Reich and belonged to the Prachatitz district from 1939 to 1945 . After the end of the Second World War, the Odsun (expulsion) of the German population began, and Czechs and Slovaks as well as re-emigrants from Hungary and Romania were settled in Horní Vltavice.
