Buk (German Buchen ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic . It is located eleven kilometers west of Prachatice and belongs to the Okres Prachatice .

Buk is located at the northern foot of the Boubín (German Kubany) (1362 m) in the Bohemian Forest at 825 m. To the south is the valley of the Cikánský potok , in which there are four water mills.
Neighboring places are Vícemily (Wetzmühl) in the north, Nedvíkov in the northeast, Šumavské Hoštice (Huschitz) in the east, Škarez 2. díl in the southeast, Včelná pod Boubínem and Pila in the south, Veselka (Wessele) in the southwest, Vyšovatka (discs) in the west as well Trhonín in the northwest.

The municipality of Buk consists of the districts Buk (Buchen) , Včelná pod Boubínem (Köllne) and Vyšovatka (Discs) , which also form cadastral districts. Buk also includes the residential areas Brdo, Dobišův Mlýn, Důra, Matulkův Mlýn, Na Pile, Trytlův Mlýn, U Lady, U Palečka, U Petra, Urbánkův Mlýn and Veselka. Basic settlement units are Buk, Na Pile, Včelná pod Boubínem and Vyšovatka.

history
Buk was first mentioned in a document in 1299. The village was part of the Volyně estate, which belonged to the St. Vitus Cathedral in Prague, and was an enclave in the Vimperk estate . In 1757 Buk was attached to the Lčovice manor . The place was parish after Šumavské Hoštice . After the replacement of patrimonial Buk formed an independent municipality from 1848.
