Želnava (German: Salnau ) is a municipality in the South Bohemia region in the Czech Republic .

history

The place was first mentioned in 1360. Želnava is located in the Bohemian Forest, a region in which the timber industry is very important. In 1888, the 3.8 km long Hefenkrieger Glitsche was built for the purpose of flooding wood , a canal that connected the Schwarzenberg canal with the Vltava . Also at this time a timber loading area was built here; Rafts were tied and washed downstream from here. Wood was washed here until 1961. Between 1980 and 1991 Želnava was incorporated into Nová Pec .

Community structure

The municipality of Želnava consists of the districts Slunečná (Sonnberg) , Záhvozdí (Hintring) and Želnava (Salnau) as well as the residential area V Černémlesen ( Black Forest ) and the deserted Schöpplův Mlýn ( Schöppelmühle ).
