Inocente Carreño

Inocente Carreño (born December 28, 1919 in Porlamar on Isla Margarita ; † June 29, 2016 , ibid) was a Venezuelan composer and music teacher .

Carreño received his first musical training from Lino Gutièrrez , whose band he first experienced at the age of nine. In 1932 he followed his brother Francisco to Caracas , where he studied at the Escuela de Música y Declamción with Vicente Emilio Sojo . With Federico Williams he learned to play the trumpet and became a singer in the Orfeón Lamas and trumpeter in the Orquestra Sinfónica de Venezuela .

After obtaining his diploma in 1946, he taught at various music schools. In 1970 he founded the Prudencio Esaá School , in 1989 and was appointed director of the Escuela Superior de Música de Caracas .

Having composed mainly popular dances such as joropos , merengues , waltzes , rumba , tangos and boleros in his early days , he later turned to the great classical forms. It emerged u. a. four symphonic overtures, a suite for string orchestra, a Sinfonia Satirica , several symphonic poems (including the famous Margariteña from 1954), chamber music works, two suites for guitar, waltz for piano and songs with orchestral accompaniment.
